Course Description:
A 4-Week program to train newly-hired dental assistants without previous experience or training on the job. This program requires someone to oversee the check-offs and homework. A dentist or office manager can do this.

The Workbook for this course should be printed immediately. All of the assignments and worksheets are in the Workbook. The Workbook is divided by weeks and has a section for the worksheet.

Quizzes for each week are taken online. After all quizzes are taken and passed, and all assignments, check-offs and worksheets are completed, the student can take the final exam. The final exam is taken online, and the Certificate of Completion can be downloaded online once the student receives a passing grade on the Final Exam and on the check-offs and assignments.
Course Objectives:
A newly-hired dental assistant will learn the basics of dental assisting through this 4-week program. The assistant will learn how to take x-rays, sterilize, disinfect treatment areas, take impressions, chart and will be able to identify dental equipment and dental instruments.

1.1 Week 1

Description:
This week you will learn about tooth anatomy, surfaces of the tooth, disinfection, sterilization and moisture control inside the mouth.

Objectives:
The student will learn how to identify surfaces of the tooth and how to perform an oral evacuation on a patient.

1.2 Week 2

Description:
During this week you will learn how to assist a doctor in 4-handed dentistry, how to take x-rays safely and effectively, as well as how to mount the x-ray films.

Objectives:
The student will learn how to assist 4-handed, take x-rays and mount x-ray films.

1.3 Week 3 Training Manual

Description:
This week you will learn about dental materials for different dental assisting procedures.

Objectives:
The student will learn how to mix and deliver various cements and impression materials.

1.4 Week 4 Training Manual

Description:
This week you will learn how to identify additional instruments, how to group them into "setups", and charting different procedures.

Turn to Week 4 in your Workbook to view assignments for this week.
Objectives:
The student will be able to create tray setups, identify various dental instruments and chart treatments and existing conditions.
