1.0 Dental Assisting, Plano, Texas

Course Description:
Dental assisting is a respected, fun and lucrative career. You can earn up to $25 per hour as an experienced dental assistant in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This 12-Week Dental Assisting Program is taught in a beautiful state-of-the-art dental office. All basic and most advanced dental assisting functions are taught. Experienced instructors and small class sizes.

This course includes CPR certification and the Texas RDA course to allow our graduates to become RDAs.

Classes are held on Sundays 9am to 6pm and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 10pm to allow our students to hold a full time job while attending classes.

Course Objectives:
Graduates of this program will be able to take a position as a dental assistant in a general dental office.

1.1 Orientation to the dental office

Description:
Learn who works in the dental office, dental specialties, major dental equipment, dental instruments, dental anatomy and basic charting.
Objectives:
The student will know how to chart the oral cavity, ID instruments and equipment, list the dental office positions and dental specialties.

1.2 Radiography

Description:
Students will learn how to take x-rays of the mouth. Students will practice taking x-rays and developing for the remainder of the course. Techniques and safety are emphasized. The RDA course will be taught at the end of this course.
Objectives:
Students will be able to take a diagnostic-quality full mouth set of x-rays in less than 20 minutes using safe techniques and settings.

1.3 Dental Materials

Description:
Students will learn how to use and identify cements, plastics and other materials, as well as the standard way of manipulating and delivering them. Instruments used for each is covered.
Objectives:
The student will be able to safely and effectively deliver the proper materials to the dentist for each dental procedure.

1.4 Preventative Dentistry

Description:
Sealants, coronal polish, fluoride rinses will be explored.
Objectives:
The student will be able to place a sealant and conduct a fluoride rinse.

1.5 Impressions and Bleaching

Description:
Taking impressions is important for diagnostic purposes. Custom suck-down trays will also be taught for bleaching.
Objectives:
The student will be able to take an alginate impression and pour it up to make a study model. Student will be able to make a custom bleaching tray.

1.6 Restorative

Description:
Everything from composite, amalgam fillings to provisional coverage will be covered.
Objectives:
The student will be able to make temporary fillings and assist chairside during restorative procedures. The student will be able to deliver the appropriate materials to the dentist for each procedure.

1.7 Dental Specialties

Description:
The student will learn how to assist during oral surgery, pack cord and make temporary crowns. The student will learn how to record periodontal pocket depths for a periodontal chart.
Objectives:
The student will be able to perform an oral evacuation during dental procedures, pack cord, and make temporary crowns and record pocket depths on a periodontal chart.

1.8 Externship

Description:
The students will be able to practice in a real dental office with real patients for either a 1-day or optional 4-day externship.
Objectives:
The student will do an externship rotation.
